These Terms are an agreement between you and FindLegal ("FindLegal", "we", "us") about your use of findlegal.net (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to them. You must be at least 18.
1. What FindLegal is — and isn't
FindLegal is an online marketplace and advertising platform. We help people ("Clients") describe a legal issue and connect with independent attorneys and other legal service providers ("Providers"). FindLegal is not a law firm, does not give legal advice, is not a lawyer referral service and is not a party to any agreement between a Client and a Provider. See our Legal disclaimer.
2. Free access for Clients in exchange for advertising emails
The Service is free for Clients. As a condition of free Client access, you agree to receive advertising emails from FindLegal, which may promote FindLegal, Providers (labeled as attorney advertising where applicable) and third-party advertisers. We send these emails ourselves; we do not sell or give your contact information to advertisers.
You may unsubscribe from advertising emails at any time using the link in any advertising email or in Email preferences, and we will stop sending them promptly. Because advertising is how Client access is funded, if you unsubscribe you will be asked to opt back in when you next sign in in order to continue using Client features (such as posting or managing requests). You may instead download your data or delete your account at any time. Transactional messages about your account and requests are not advertising and are sent regardless of this choice.
3. Requests, summaries and the intake assistant
The intake assistant is automated software that organizes the information you provide into a summary. You are responsible for reviewing and approving your summary before it is sent. The summary, without your name or contact details, is shared with the Providers we match to your request; your identity is shared with a Provider only when you hire them. The assistant does not provide legal advice and may make mistakes.
To find you more options, we may also email a redacted version of your summary to attorneys licensed in the relevant state who are not yet on FindLegal, inviting them to join and respond. The redacted version leaves out your name, contact details, addresses, exact dates, the other parties' names and other identifying details; it shows the practice area, your city and state, and the kind of help you need. Those attorneys can see your full summary only after they register. This applies to requests created on or after September 23, 2026.
You may have one request in progress at a time. You can send a new request once a Provider has been hired on your previous request, or 30 days after it was sent, whichever comes first. If you withdraw a request before any Provider has quoted on it, you may send a new one straight away.
4. Providers
- Providers must give accurate license, registration or accreditation information, keep it current, and tell us promptly of any suspension, discipline or change in status. We may verify, suspend or remove any listing at our discretion.
- Providers may offer only services they are authorized to provide in the relevant jurisdiction and remain solely responsible for compliance with the rules of professional conduct that apply to them, including rules on advertising, solicitation, conflicts of interest, fees, confidentiality and client funds.
- Fees are agreed and paid directly between Client and Provider. FindLegal does not handle client funds and does not share in legal fees. Provider subscription fees are paid for advertising and software features only, and do not depend on whether a Provider is hired or on any fee earned.
- Matching of requests does not depend on a Provider's subscription. Sponsored placements are advertising and are labeled.
5. Provider subscriptions
Paid plans (Pro, currently $49 per month, and Firm, currently $149 per month, plus any applicable taxes) are billed in advance by our payment processor, Stripe, and renew automatically each month until cancelled. You can cancel online at any time in Plan & billing; paid features continue until the end of the current period and fees already paid are not refunded except where required by law. We will give notice before changing prices.
6. Your content and conduct
You keep ownership of what you submit. You give us a licence to host, process and display it as needed to run the Service (including sending your approved summary to matched Providers and processing it with our AI service provider). You agree not to misuse the Service — see the Acceptable Use Policy. Reviews must be honest and based on your own experience; we may remove reviews that are abusive, reveal confidential information, or are not genuine.
7. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is". To the fullest extent permitted by law, FindLegal disclaims all warranties, express or implied, and does not warrant the availability, qualifications, conduct or results of any Provider, or that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, FindLegal will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any act or omission of a Provider or Client. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of $100 or the amount you paid FindLegal in the 12 months before the claim.
9. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or put users at risk.
10. Changes and governing law
We may update these Terms; if the change is material we will ask you to accept the new version.
